Hemming Instructions for Pants and Chaps
- Pull on your new pants or chaps to ensure a good fit in the waist and thighs. If you feel the waist or thighs are not sized correctly, please contact customer service for next steps.
- Put on your favorite pair of boots - ideally the ones you'll wear most with your new garment. If you don't have boots yet, sneakers or work boots are the next best option; anything with a heel to elevate your foot off the floor.
- Roll the bottom raw edge of the garment up and over itself so you create a folded edge on the bottom of each leg.
- Pull the raw edge up, so the folded edge is drawn up higher than where you would wear the hem of your pants. Try and flatten out any bumps or creases so you maintain a clean fold.
- While standing, slowly roll the folded edge of each leg down until it rests at a spot where you would want your finished hem. Generally, it's a good idea to make sure the back of the hem rests slightly above the base of your heel, and there isn't too much material bunching over the arch of your foot. If you want a lower or higher hem, this is where you will make that determination and adjust as you would like it.
- Sit down, walk around, look in a mirror... make sure that edge sits exactly where you want it.
- When you're happy with where the edge is resting, take the provided wax pencil and pinch the front edge of the fold just above the arch of your foot, then make a small horizontal mark on the very edge of the crease. Repeat with the back of the pant leg, near your heel.
- Repeat as above with the other leg of your garment. You should now have four marks total on your garment for our tailors to cut, fold, and secure your hem so the fold marks are exactly where you have indicated.
- Take off your garment and unroll the extra material so you have two flat legs. Fold the garment nicely to avoid creases during transport and package it securely, fastening the return label to the box as you would normally.
- Once we receive the garment, we will assess and hem within 2-3 business days, and have it out the door on its way back to you.
Please feel free to contact customer service at any point during the process to ensure that you have the best fit possible. Once we cut the garment, we can shorten the hem, but we cannot lengthen it. Take your time and you'll have a garment that you can wear proudly.
